This morning I had to be up at 4am for a news segment on Fox 4 Rising for the Pirate Cruise. I don’t do mornings so it was a bit of a struggle. But we honestly had a riot during the show and Stephen taught me how to speak like a pirate. Apparently I need more work but hey I tried. Enjoy the video!
I don’t have enough time to write a blog post today. But I will leave you with a fantastic music video. This has been my favorite song for months! Love me some Luke Bryan.
Last night we went to the Darius Rucker concert at Germain Arena with our awesome friends Ryan, Christyn, Pete, and Jenni. We had an absolute blast! This morning I was reminded that I can’t party like I used to. Man I am getting old. Here are a few photos from the night.
Every once in awhile I see a commercial and I think to myself, “advertising genius!” Kudos to the advertising company that put this one together. I smile every time I watch it! Enjoy.
We’ve been down in Ft. Myers for a few months now. I am finally settling in. For the past few weekends we have been traveling back and forth from Florida to South Carolina for weddings. Talk about STRESSFUL!!! There were tons of flight delays (thanks Obama) and when we had to drive back we were right behind a 10 car pile up right outside of Columbia, SC. It added several hours to our drive. I seriously don’t want to travel again for awhile (unless Europe is the final destination… or Maui).
Going back and forth between the two states, I was reminded of all the differences between the two areas. One thing I really miss is real SWEET TEA! Man, I love a nice cold glass of sweet tea. This Nestea stuff down here is for the birds. I miss southern hospitality. Chivalry is dead in these parts. I miss random mullet sightings at Wal-Mart. I miss seeing Garnet and Black Gamecock paraphernalia everywhere. I also miss preppy clothes. People down here wear a lot of beach bum clothes. They are totally cute and eventually I am sure I will start rocking them but in the meantime my wardrobe consists of a whole lot of Lilly Pulitzer dresses and J Crew and I am a little out of place. But as Oscar Wilde once said,
You can Never Be Overdressed or Overeducated.
But overall, I am happy calling this place my new home. The weather is PERFECT! The atmosphere is fun and laid back. And best of all, I love my job. Life is a lot less stressful when you enjoy going to work every day. I work with really cool people, I have awesome bosses, and my view is killer. Working in this type of environment is really good for me. When I had Harper and we decided I needed to go back to work (because Erik wanted to go back to school) I was a bit bitter. Most of my friends are stay-at-home mom’s and my mom stayed at home with me and my sister. I always thought I would end up staying at home with my kids too. But I actually love to work. I’ve been a workaholic for most of my life and I am starting to learn how to balance work and being a mom. It is not easy but I manage.
I’ve been working at Salty Sam’s Waterfront Adventures as the Director of Marketing for about 4 months now. There hasn’t been a single day where I woke up and dreaded going into work. There have been a few rough mornings when Harper cried for me when I was leaving but not once did I say to myself, “Man I don’t want to work today.” I think that’s pretty awesome and pretty rare. I am very grateful and feel very blessed to find a career that I love and a company that I enjoy working for. I’m not going to lie, Salty Sam’s is pretty awesome. I do the marketing for four different companies. We have two waterfront restaurants, Parrot Key Caribbean Grill and Big Game Waterfront Grill. We also have a marina, icecream shop, gift store, and Pieces of Eight Pirate Cruise. So yes, I get to work with pirates every day. How cool is that? This place reminds me of a Jimmy Buffett song. My only problem is I constantly want a frozen concoction in my hand. But it is 5 o’clock somewhere, right?
